Mario Bacciocchi: AGIP service Stations. 1952-1953 - Italian/English - AVAILABLE FROM OCTOBER 2025
In areas where industry had taken over from agriculture, Agip, part of the state-owned Eni group chaired by Enrico Mattei, scattered service stations along provincial and state roads, in cities, towns, and the countryside, like confetti in the new economic landscape of an Italy that had just emerged from fascism and World War II. Mattei's communication strategy was to choose a national image in a country driven by the myths of American-style consumerism. The project was entrusted to Mario Bacciocchi, who drew up a scalable master plan, designing a prototype capable of supporting multiple variations without losing its character. The medium for this operation is an invariant: the section. Each variation preserves it intact, generating objects, touches, and plays of light.
